On August 5, 2008, the School Board of Hillsborough County approved an Agricultural Lease with Artesian Farms, Inc. for cattle pasture for the Agribusiness Department at Lennard High School for the 2008 school year (Exhibit A). The property includes approximately 45 acres located south of 11th Avenue, west of 24th Street, north of Shell Point Road in Ruskin and is used to manage cattle that are used for land laboratory experiences for students enrolled in the Veterinary Assisting and Agritechnology Programs. The terms of the Lease contain a two year renewal option that includes the upcoming 2010 school year. The attached renewal letter to Artesian Farms is being rendered to exercise the School Board's option to continue use of the pasture land till August 31, 2011 (Exhibit B).

In addition, School Board staff is seeking permission to negotiate and prepare a First Amendment to the Lease with Artesian Farms to establish a perpetual yearly renewal option beginning September 1, 2011. The new Lease will be brought back to the School Board for approval next year.

The attached extension letter has been reviewed by the School Board Attorney as to form and sufficiency.

The land laboratory is an integral part of the Veterinary Assisting Program and is funded through the General Operating Budget.
