Approve Renewal Agreement and Contract for Technical Services with Medical Direction Consultants, Inc. for Medical Director of the Emergency Medical Technician Program, Learey Technical Center, 2010/2011 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

We request approval of the renewal Agreement for Technical Services with Medical Direction Consultants, Inc. for 2010/2011 to ensure continuity of program excellence with the designation of Joe A. Nelson, D.O., M.S. as Medical Director.

Medical Technician (EMT) programs maintain program oversight by a Medical Director to ensure that all instruction meets the training and qualifications protocols. In addition to overseeing the program, Dr. Nelson also serves as the chairperson of the EMT advisory committee and acts as liaison with local medical providers.

The Medical Director actively participates in teaching and verifying student competency hours, as well as the selection of program faculty and students. The Medical Director maintains substantial knowledge in all aspects of emergency medicine in Florida, acts as a crew member on an Emergency Medical Services vehicle at least 10 hours per year, and participates in state and local quality assurance programs.

Funds of $18,000 are included in the Learey Technical Center Workforce Education budget, Project 9004.
