SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Florida Statute 1013.31 requires that each School Board conduct an educational plant survey at least every five years. The Board approved the District's current survey on October 21, 2008. The survey recommends new facilities as well as additions, remodeling, and renovations at existing sites. As exceptions to the survey recommendations arise, the Board is required to submit a "spot survey" to the Department of Education for each facility. Spot surveys are now required for Turner Elementary and Bartels Middle Schools.
The District proposes to amend the Florida Inventory of School Houses (FISH) reports for Turner Elementary and Bartels Middle to reflect that Turner 5th grade students are currently utilizing classroom space at Bartels. With the full implementation of the Class Size Amendment this year and with school concurrency in 2008, a solution was needed to reduce class sizes and reduce overcrowding at Turner to achieve compliance with these State laws.
