SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Interagency Agreement With Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office to Improve School Safety and Reduce Juvenile Crime and Truancy (Adult and Community Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of the Interagency Agreement with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office to assist school principals to identify and make contact with chronic truants from Hillsborough County Schools.

This first time agreement expands the truancy court program and supports the district's efforts to improve attendance by utilizing Sheriff's Deputies on patrol to make contact with students who are chronically absent from school and report back to school officials the result of their contact. With this partnership, it is hoped that incidents of motor vehicle theft will be reduced, school safety will increase, truancy will be reduced, in- and out-of-school suspensions and expulsions will be reduced, and attendance will be increased.
