EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of the Agreements for Technical Services with Julia Hagge ($23,304) and Janne Boone ($22,339.84) to provide onsite coaching support to K-3 teachers at Elementary Reading First Schools with Reading Coach vacancies (i.e. maternity, short-term health leaves, etc.) from September 19, 2007, through May 30, 2008. The schools include, but are not limited to, Twin Lakes, Lewis, and Temple Terrace Elementary Schools.

Ms. Hagge and Ms. Boone have completed our required coaches training and have previously served as a reading coach in our district. They will work with grade-level teams to analyze student data to plan instruction, form groups for differentiated instruction, identify students in need of intervention, and develop intervention plans to meet student needs. Individual coaching will be provided to teachers to assist in implementing training, techniques, and strategies to address individual student needs through whole group and small group instruction as well as individual conferencing and tutoring. Both Ms. Boone and Ms. Hagge will also serve on the school-based Reading Leadership Team to provide support, guidance, and information they receive from Reading Coach Training. The District Supervisor and District Resource Teacher for K-3 Reading Coaches will oversee the schedule and work of Ms. Boone and Ms. Hagge.

The District is committed to increasing student achievement in reading through the work of K-3 reading coaches at our elementary schools. Reading coaches work to directly support teachers to develop and enhance the expertise of reading instruction in our elementary classrooms.
