Adoption of Proclamation - Hillsborough County Public Schools Head Start Program Recognizes October as Head Start Awareness Month (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The mission of the Head Start Program is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to enrolled children and families. The Head Start Program currently serves 1,759 children in 89 classrooms at 45 elementary school sites located in Hillsborough County. In recognition of “Head Start Awareness Month,” Head Start Programs across the country will acknowledge and celebrate the program that has made a difference in so many lives. In Hillsborough County, a public Head Start Awareness Month Celebration entitled “Hillsborough County Head Start is Shaping Families, Building Futures” will be held on Wednesday, October 17, at Joe Chillura Park in downtown Tampa from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The health and nutrition aspects of the program have improved the prevention, detection, and treatment of children's medical, dental, nutritional problems and also enhances their cognitive skills which helps children prepare for kindergarten, thereby, removing barriers to growth and learning.
