Approve Educational Agreement with Florida West Coast Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Trust Fund, Aparicio-Levy Technical Center, 2007/2008 - $34,000 (Adult Technical Education)

We request approval of the Educational Agreement with Florida West Coast Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Trust Fund for Aparicio-Levy Technical Center to provide a postsecondary apprenticeship program for operating engineers for 2007/2008. This program, new to the District, will serve 30 apprentices who will develop skills to operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment, including construction cranes.

If approved, this program will add to our inventory of apprenticeship educational agreements, which the School Board approved on April 24, 2007. Under this agreement, Florida West Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Trust Fund will be reimbursed for instructor wages only.

Workforce Education Funds of $34,000 will be budgeted to reimburse the Florida West Coast Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Trust Fund for instructor wages; the 2008/2009 Workforce Education allocation will reflect funding based on student performances in this program during 2007/2008.

After the first year, completion and placement rates will be analyzed to determine performance funding levels consistent with other adult apprenticeship programs.
