SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Agreements for Technical Services with Dale Carnegie Training, Tampa Bay, for a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Student Officer Seminar and a CTSO Teacher Advisor Coaching Seminar, $18,750 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of two agreements for technical services with Dale Carnegie Training, Tampa Bay, to conduct the following seminars for CTSO training:

The Career and Technical Education co-curricular CTSO’s active at our district secondary and postsecondary schools include the following: CECF (Career Education Clubs of Florida); DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America); FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America); FCCLA (Family, Career Community Leaders of America); FFA (Future Farmers of America); FPSA (Florida Public Service Association); HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America); SkillsUSA (Industrial Education Student Organization); and TSA (Technology Student Association).

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Funds of $18,750 ($9,375 for each seminar, $125 per participant) are included in the divisional operating budget, Project 4502, Staff Development ($9,375) and in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, Project 1350, Perkins Funds ($9,375). Total participation: 150 (75 teachers and 75 student officers)

EVALUATION

Pre- and post-seminar participant surveys will assess student comprehension of basic self-motivation behaviors and practices for goal and task follow-through and completion success. Participant's action plans will be tracked by the district CTSO Coordinator after the seminar to coach, encourage, reinforce, record, and reward successes during the school year.
