Recognition of the Superintendent and the School Board by Junior Achievement West Central Florida (Curriculum and Instruction)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Junior Achievement of West Central Florida would like to recognize Superintendent MaryEllen Elia and the School Board for their support of JA BizTown, formally known as JA Enterprise Village.

Students, parents, and teachers alike are raving about JA BizTown’s experience and the new student workbooks and technology. JA BizTown complements state and school performance assessment programs. It is directly aligned to reinforce economic and social studies concepts taught in Grades K-6. This hands-on, interactive experience allows students to apply and expand their classroom knowledge, teambuilding, critical thinking, and problem solving skills in a lifelike community. During this one day experience students run various sponsored businesses, receive paychecks, open bank accounts, and have the opportunity to become consumers by making purchases in student-run businesses.

JA BizTown will inspire over 13,000 Hillsborough County fifth-grade students this school year. Last year, 12,323 students participated in this program – the 5th largest program in the United States.
