SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Recognize the Outstanding Support within Hillsborough County High Schools for Florida Blood Services.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Florida Blood Services is recognizing our high school students who account for approximately 15 percent of the necessary blood supply in the Tampa Bay area. This year was the first year that 16-year-old students were able to participate in the blood drives at their high schools. Each 16-year-old had to submit a parent permission slip with every donation and the 17- and 18-year-olds needed permission slips if they were first time donors.

Attachment “A” lists the high school donors and recognizes schools that won awards during the 2006-2007 school year.

The Florida Blood Services is a non-profit community-based blood center that collects blood for 38 hospitals in the Tampa Bay Area. Their goal is to meet the needs of our hospitals, which is 750 pints of blood every day, and to encourage our high school students to become life time blood donors. We salute our teenagers who are willing to make a difference to save lives in our community.
