Employee Direct Deposit (Business Office)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

For many years, the School District has offered employees the benefit of direct deposit of their payroll funds to any financial institution. Employee participation in the district direct deposit program has grown over the years to the current level of approximately 87%. The remaining 13% or approximately 3,000 employees continue to have system generated checks that are mailed to their homes. The direct deposit program is supported by the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association and School Board of Hillsborough County’s Contract section 17.6.8 which states: “Effective January 1, 2002, newly hired teachers shall be allowed ninety (90) days from start of employment to provide the district with account information for purposes of mandatory direct deposit of salary.”

Based on this contract language, the District will begin a new direct deposit marketing campaign that will include a new method of check distribution for those not yet participating. Effective, with the January 18, 2008, pay-date, the District will no longer mail out paychecks for instructional employees hired on or after January 1, 2002, that are not participating in the direct deposit program. On January 18, 2008, and February 1, 2008, these employees will be allowed to pick up paychecks at the ROSSAC building and complete the paperwork necessary to participate in the direct deposit program mandated by the contract.

The direct deposit Campaign Plan will consist of:

  • direct mailers to those not participating
  • partnering with financial institutions to continue offering our employees banking options
  • ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

    FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The District will yield a savings each pay date for the reduced amount of postage required.
