Approve Contract with Festive Floats for Use of the O’Malley Float for Participation in the Children’s Gasparilla Parade, January 19, 2008 - $1,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

We request approval of the Standard Contract with Festive Floats for the elementary and middle magnet school participation in the Children’s Gasparilla Parade to be held on January 19, 2008, along the Bayshore Boulevard parade route. The contract covers the costs associated with the rental of the float, insurance, and driver for the event.

The Good Ship Magnet, with Superintendent MaryEllen Elia and Board Members invited, will represent the Hillsborough Magnet School Program with students, staff, and families from all elementary and middle magnet schools. The schools will use incentive programs to identify students to ride on the float. The Children’s Gasparilla Parade is another way for magnet schools to participate in the community and to remind families about Hillsborough Choice and magnet opportunities.

Goal 5 – The District will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points.

Funds of $1,000 to cover the cost of the contract are being underwritten by ParentGuide Magazine, one of the sponsors of Hillsborough Choice and Magnet Programs.
