Adoption of Proclamation, "Black History Month" - February 2008 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request the School Board adopt the attached proclamation designating the month of February 2008 as “Black History Month” in Hillsborough District schools.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist has proclaimed February as "Black History Month" in the state of Florida. Attached is a proclamation that Hillsborough County Public Schools will observe the month of February as "Black History Month."

In celebration, schools will recognize and honor the contributions and achievements of African-Americans. The observance of "Black History Month" commemorates the fact that our country and community have benefited from the contributions of African-Americans and celebrate their significant achievements.
