Adoption of Proclamation - “Career and Technical Education Month” - February 2008 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request the School Board adopt the attached proclamation designating the month of February 2008 as “Career and Technical Education Month” in Hillsborough District schools.

The National Association for Career and Technical Education, the Florida Association for Career and Technical Education, and the Hillsborough Technical, Career, and Adult Association have designated the month of February 2008, as “Career and Technical Education Month.” Attached is a proclamation that Hillsborough County Public Schools will observe the month of February 2008, as “Career and Technical Education Month.” The theme for this year’s recognition is “Achievement and Success for a Lifetime.”

As an integral part of our district school-to-career transition system, career awareness begins in our elementary schools; career and technical programs continue in middle and senior high schools and extend through our adult programs. Our technical laboratories, programs, and Hi-Tec Centers are exemplary and provide graduates the skills for job placement and continuing education. Our workforce development programs for adults provide skills updating, career opportunities, and continuing education. Business and industry send their employees to be trained by our staff, and one reason cited for locating new businesses to this county is the high quality of career and technical programs. We appreciate the effective partnerships with chambers of commerce and with business and industry.

We invite all interested individuals to visit Career and Technical programs. Career and Technical Education is an essential component of an effective school-to-career transition system. During this focus month for career and technical education, the members of the Hillsborough Technical, Career, and Adult Association, staff members, and students will be involved in various career awareness activities which include job fairs, media promotions, proclamations, and open house events.
