Approve Florida State Fair Authority License and Use Agreement for Events, Contract No. 08N0111, for the Middle School Math League Competition, April 16, 2008 - $5,125.02 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

We request approval of Contract No. 08N0111 with the Florida State Fair Authority to provide the venue for the 2008 Middle School Math League Competition.

On April 16, 2008, the districtwide Middle School Math League Competition will be held for students to compete in grade-level teams for both team and individual awards. Responding to challenging mathematical problems, students must strategize independently, as well as, cooperatively, within a team. To prepare for competition, students practice throughout the school year with a teacher-coach. Approximately 550 students will participate in the Math League competitions to win trophies for their schools and for themselves.

The agreement cost of $5,125.02 includes facilities rental, chairs/tables setup, security, and utilities. A PEPSI sponsorship of $4,825 provides gift certificates for the top five teams and the top five individual students.

Goal 2 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT mathematics will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.

The cost of $5,125.02 for use of the facility is funded through school registration fees. In addition, a PEPSI sponsorship of $4,825 provides gift certificates for the top five teams and the top five individual students.
