Adoption of Proclamation – "Youth Art Month" - March 2008 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request the School Board adopt the attached proclamation designating the month of March 2008 as “Youth Art Month” in Hillsborough District schools.

The Art Educators National Conference has designated March 2008 as “Youth Art Month.” Attached is a proclamation that the Hillsborough County Public Schools will observe the month of March 2008 as “Youth Art Month.” The theme for this year’s activities is “ArtWorks” with the focus on visual arts programs that cultivate student, parent, and community learning. These programs approach academic concepts from an artful point of view.

Art communicates through a language of images and experiences with which students connect and that students also enjoy. As art teachers share techniques and skills, they make learning an adventure for their students and themselves.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 – The district will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Activities for "Youth Art Month" are integrated into the standard curriculum with no additional cost to the district.
