SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Adoption of Recommended Titles as Flexibility Instructional Materials for Middle/Secondary READING EDUCATION (Middle School Education and Secondary Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval to adopt the following as supplemental instructional materials for Intensive Reading:

Grades 6-8
  • Language! The Comprehensive Literacy Curriculum
  • Ramp Up to Middle Grades Literacy
Grades 6-12
  • Read 180
The attached memorandum from Lynn Dougherty-Underwood, Supervisor, Middle/Secondary Reading, indicates the FLEX textbook committee studied and recommended the instructional materials according to district guidelines (Policy 4.16) which include the following:

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of five percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

These items may be purchased using categorical textbook funds included in the general operating budget for Curriculum and Instruction. The estimated five-year cost is $1,150,000.
