Approve Cancellation of the Contract with Early Childhood School Readiness Programs and Beach Park Academy, 1509 South Clark Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33629 (Student Services & Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The contract with Beach Park Academy is to be cancelled effective May 1, 2008, due to provider’s breach of contract by failing to earn a passing score on the Environment Rating Scale which assesses quality standards and is a requirement for maintaining contract eligibility. The term of this contract is July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 – The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The total funding of $60,000 was to be used to provide education and care for approximately 15 children from eligible low-income families at the annual rate of $4,000 per child. The federal/state grant funds are channeled to the District from the Florida Office of Early Learning and the Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County. By the time of termination, reimbursement to the provider will be approximately $19,278. The remaining funds of approximately $40,722 will be made available to providers assuming the care of the children currently enrolled at Beach Park Academy.
