Approve Agreements for Technical Services for Facilitators for the English for Speakers of Other Languages Certification Compliance Courses, 2008/2009 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

The District is committed to providing training for teacher certification to satisfy consent decree requirements for English for Speakers of Other Languages programs that impact FTE weighted funding. Facilitators will plan, conduct and evaluate face-to-face and online courses from April 16, 2008, through June 30, 2009. This time period includes the 2008 summer session as well as the 2008 fall and 2008/2009 winter/spring sessions.

The courses include, but are not limited to the following: Strategies for Professionals, Empowering ESOL Teachers, Methods of Teaching ESOL, Cross Cultural Communication and Understanding, ESOL Curriculum Development, ESOL Testing and Evaluation, Applied Linguistics, and ESOL for Administrators and Guidance Counselors.

Agreements for Technical Services have been prepared for the attached list of training facilitators. In order to effectively provide the training, permission is requested to add and/or delete facilitators as needed, not to exceed the budgeted amount of $350,000.

Goal 5.4 - Provide teachers training opportunities that focus on learning strategies.

Funds of $350,000 are included in the staff development budget for Programs for English Language Learners.

Teachers complete course and facilitator evaluation.
