Approve Adoption of Recommended Titles as Flexibility Instructional Materials for SECONDARY SCIENCE EDUCATION (Secondary Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval to adopt the Integrated Science III materials as primary textbooks for the Secondary Science Program. The attached memorandum from Nancy Marsh, Supervisor, Secondary Science, indicates the FLEX textbook committee studied and recommended the instructional materials according to district guidelines (Policy 4.16) which include the following:
- The District FLEX textbook selection committee is trained in the instructional materials evaluation process.
- The FLEX Committee reviews and evaluates submissions using the Florida Department of Education instructional materials evaluation packet.
- The FLEX Committee through a consensus vote recommends instructional materials to be placed on the FLEX list for purchase.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of five percentage points.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
These items may be purchased using categorical textbook funds included in the general operating budget for Curriculum and Instruction. The estimated five-year cost of the primary textbooks is $629,950.
