Approve Termination of the Contract With School Readiness Programs and St. Francis Children’s Day Care Center (Student Services & Federal Programs Division)

The term of the contract with St. Francis Children’s Day Care Center is July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008, with an original contract amount of $315,400. St. Francis Children’s Day Care Center was found non-compliant by the Hillsborough County Child Care licensing office and fined a total of $300 for failure to provide adequate supervision of children in care on two occasions. This failure is a breach of contract and cause for termination according to the health and safety stipulation of the agreement because the infractions jeopardize the safety of children attending St. Francis Children’s Day Care Center. Due to payment schedules set for the first of the month, this contract is to be cancelled effective May 1, 2008.

Goal 5 – The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

The total funding of $264,000 was to be used to provide education and care for approximately 66 children from eligible-income families at the average annual rate of $4,000 per child. All of the funds are allocated by the Agency for Workforce Innovation Office of Early Learning to Hillsborough County School Readiness Coalition, Inc., and by virtue of a contract, to Early Childhood School Readiness Programs. By the time of termination, reimbursement to the provider for child care services will be approximately $153,218. The remaining contract balance of $110,782 will be made available to providers assuming the care of school readiness children currently enrolled at St. Francis Children’s Day Care Center.

No evaluation will be conducted due to this action being a contract termination.
