Approve Contract with the Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa to Create Summer Program Curriculum, Materials, and Activities for Preselected Youth from High Schools in East Tampa (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

In March of this year, the Florida Department of Education allocated additional Title I dollars to Hillsborough County Public Schools for the purpose of impacting populations at risk of dropping out of school. These dollars are required to be expended by the conclusion of this year’s fiscal budget period. The Corporation To Develop Communities of Tampa is partnering with several agencies to provide the Youth Leadership Development Training Program for preselected high school youth in East Tampa. This summer program will offer a structured environment where students will learn marketable skills along with providing the motivation, organization and self sufficiency needed to achieve academic and employment goals. This contract, specifically, provides the dollars necessary to develop summer program curriculum activities, as well as supports a college tour experience for participating youth.

Goal 5 - The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

This contract will be paid using Title I funds in the amount of $5,000.

A Pre and Post Test will be administered to participating students to determine if the objectives of the summer program were achieved. By August 1, 2008, these results will be shared with district staff. The results will be analyzed to determine the success of the program and future contracts with the vendor.
