Approve Technical Service Agreement for Professional Development for Achievement, Inc. to Provide Professional Development Training and Support for Teachers at Pierce Middle School (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This board agenda item is being submitted on behalf of Pierce Middle School. After analyzing 06/07 and current year assessment data in Reading, it is imperative to train teachers in best practice instructional techniques to ensure student academic improvement. The provider will plan and conduct trainings for 30 teachers in grades 6, 7, and 8. The provider will analyze student data with teachers, implement CRISS strategies and technology, develop models for differentiating instruction, conduct staff development on Sunshine State Standard strands during teacher’s planning periods, and model effective instructional practices in the classroom.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1- The percentage of students scoring at level 3 or higher on FCAT Reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 5- The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

This Technical Service Agreement will be paid out of Pierce Middle School’s Title 1 Staff Development set aside dollars in the amount of $6,400.

EVALUATION

One-on-one meetings with the trainer will be used to share staff information and feedback. A final evaluation will be done at the conclusion of the 2008/2009 school year, when FCAT scores arrive, to determine if the training provided by Professional Development for Achievement, Inc. had a positive impact on student achievement.
