EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Ann Slayton, Implementation Consultant for Renaissance Learning, Inc., will provide an intensive four-day (June 11-14, 2008) workshop to 10 media and technology specialists who will review and explore Accelerated Reader best practices and effective implementation strategies that lead to classroom environments in which students excel (Model/Master certification). In addition to hands-on experience, working with and troubleshooting the software application, these sessions will allow this team to develop an in-depth understanding of classroom methods and techniques that maximize the impact of Accelerated Reader on student success in our District. Throughout the session, participants will reflect on the current instructional practices for reading, analyze the unique needs, and create a strategic implementation plan. The team will leave the four-day event with a toolkit of activities and materials that will help them facilitate training at all elementary school sites.
Research on effective staff development and implementation shows that providing ongoing support to local staff trainers is key to ensuring their success. A Renaissance consultant will provide follow-up services to the team of trainers over the course of our first implementation year to discuss the progress.
