SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Contract for Imagine Charter School at Riverview

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Charter school legislation, 1002.33, F.S., permits individuals, organizations and community members the opportunity to submit an application to the School Board for the creation of a charter school. On October 16, 2007, the School Board approved the application for Imagine Charter School at Riverview.

Imagine Charter School at Riverview will use the 2008-2009 school year as a planning year and will open in 2009 in the Riverview area. The school will serve students in grades kindergarten through sixth. The curriculum focus will be Project Child, an innovative research-based teaching and learning system. The CHILD model emphasizes reading, writing, and mathematics, with science and social studies topics incorporated through interdisciplinary units of instruction.

A copy of the proposed five-year contract for the school is attached. The original charter application approved by the School Board will become Appendix I of this contract and will be available for review in the School Board Office. The school’s academic goals and objectives are found in Appendix II. Appendix III includes the evaluation tool used for teachers. In the event there is a discrepancy between the contract and the charter application, the terms of the contract will prevail. Imagine Charter School at Riverview has agreed to all terms of the contract, which has been revised to include the most recent revisions to 1002.33, F.S.

The attached documents are originals submitted by Imagine Charter School at Riverview.

A copy of the application review summary is attached indicating where weaknesses are addressed in the contract.
