SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Agreements for Technical Services for the Career and Technical Education Curriculum Writing Project, 2008/2009 - $90,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of the Agreements for Technical Services for the attached list of Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers to develop curriculum for middle and high school CTE programs and career academies that utilize the adopted CTE curriculum template which provides a rigor and relevance format when designing instruction. In order to effectively complete curriculum materials, permission is requested to add and/or delete writers as needed, not to exceed the budgeted amount of $90,000. All curriculum writers are selected based upon their successful completion of CTE workshops that seek to train teachers to write quality CTE lesson plans and curriculum guides that adhere to the adopted CTE standardized template. These CTE curriculum workshops are held throughout the year in order to build a sound base for CTE curriculum writers.

The curricula will include FCAT-type skills and strategies and will include the integration of rigorous reading, math, science, and writing to ensure that core course concepts are emphasized and reinforced as an integral component of all CTE courses. Curriculum will be implemented to serve more than 50,000 CTE students.
