EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of the Agreement for Technical Services with Dr. Kiran C. Patel Center for Global Solutions (Patel Center) to deliver three 7-hour workshops entitled, “Global Citizenship.” The workshops are part of Project Educating Learners to Engage in Civics Today (ELECT), and designed to improve teachers’ knowledge of civics content, student engagement relative to government and civics, and to make the connection of being a global citizen in a democratizing world. The “Global Citizenship” workshops will infuse culturally competent instructional practices throughout the content training to provide teachers with the skills necessary to reach all students. The Patel Center will present the workshops at the University of South Florida to 90 middle and high school social studies teachers on September 13, October 4, and November 1, 2008. Patel Center will also provide the facilities, trainers, and materials for each session.

Dr. Kiran C. Patel Center for Global Solutions helps to raise civic awareness and engagement relative to issues that will influence students on a local, regional, national, and global basis.
