Approve Revised Workforce Education Fee Schedule for Adult Student Tuition and Financial Aid for Postsecondary Technical and Adult Education Programs, 2008/2009 (Adult Technical Education and Adult and Community Education)

We request approval of the Revised Workforce Education Fee Schedule which revises the tuition rates per hour for postsecondary technical and adult education programs. The purpose of the revision is to comply with the approved range of base tuition.

On July 15, 2008, the School Board approved the Workforce Education Fee Schedule for Adult Student Tuition and Financial Aid for Postsecondary Technical and Adult Education Programs for the 2008/2009 school year, with the Legislative mandate for a 6-percent increase.

The 2008/09 District Postsecondary Student Fee Survey conducted by the Florida Department of Education revealed that rounding in the 6-percent calculation of base tuition for Adult Education resulted in a fee which exceeded the allowable range by one cent. The revision brings this fee into compliance with the acceptable fee range. Additionally, this reduction is in keeping with the philosophy of the District to keep tuition and fees for our students at the lowest amount possible, while maintaining the highest quality programs.

These fees are part of the local required effort and are included in the Workforce Education general operating budget.
