Approve Agreement for Technical Services for On-site Coaching Support to the Elementary Reading First Schools with Reading Coach Vacancies, 2008/2009 - $14,361.32 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

We request approval of the Agreement for Technical Services with Janne Boone to provide on-site coaching support to K-3 teachers at Elementary Reading First Schools with Reading Coach vacancies (i.e. maternity, short-term health leaves, etc.) from October 8, 2008, through May 30, 2009. The schools include, but are not limited to, Dickenson, Grady and Baycrest Elementary Schools.

Ms. Boone has completed our required coaches training and has previously served as a reading coach in our district. She will work with grade-level teams to analyze student data to plan instruction, form groups for differentiated instruction, identify students in need of intervention, and develop intervention plans to meet student needs. Individual coaching will be provided to teachers to assist in implementing training, techniques, and strategies to address individual student needs through whole group and small group instruction, as well as individual conferencing and tutoring. Ms. Boone will also serve on the school-based Reading Leadership Team to provide support, guidance, and information she receives from Reading Coach Training. The District Supervisor and District Resource Teacher for K-3 Reading Coaches will oversee the schedule and work of Ms. Boone.

The District is committed to increasing student achievement in reading through the work of K-3 reading coaches at our elementary schools. Reading coaches work to directly support teachers to develop and enhance the expertise of reading instruction in our elementary classrooms.

Goal 1.0 – The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.

Funds of $14,361.32 are included in the Reading First Grant ($9,574.21), Project 1541 and Title I ($4,787.11), Project 1595.
