EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The USF SCATT Middle School Tutorial Program began in 2007 as a pilot program at three middle schools: Buchanan, Greco, and Van Buren. Selected students met with preservice teachers (USF tutors) from the University of South Florida College of Education, individually or in very small groups, from two to four hours a week, to work on areas of academic needs. The program extended to include seven more middle schools for the 2008/09 school year. Corporate sponsors will award $1,200 scholarships, $600 per semester, to fifty USF tutors. The goal of this program is to increase student performance and assist in closing the achievement gap.
