Recognition of Hillsborough District Teacher of the Year Awards for Career and Technical Education (Career and Technical Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Edward Bujarski, Wharton High School
Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association ProStart Culinary Teacher of Year

Each year the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association recognizes a ProStart Culinary Teacher of the Year. This ProStart culinary program is intended to prepare the students for a postsecondary culinary education and to prepare them for the food service industry. Students successfully completing the program are not only eligible for the Gold Seal Scholarship, but the scholarships at culinary schools as well. Chef Bujarski has been instrumental in implementing a strong Culinary Arts Academy at Wharton High School. In the academy, students not only learn about culinary in their culinary classes, but also in their English and Social Studies classes. Chef Bujarski is adored by his students, as many colleagues have reported. The Culinary Arts Academy has progressed by leaps and bounds because of his passion for teaching.

Rochelle Stanfill, Jefferson High School
Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Lodging Management Program Teacher of Year

Each year the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association recognizes a Lodging Management Program Teacher of the Year. Ms. Stanfill has been teaching the Lodging Management Program (LMP) curriculum in the International Academy of Resort Operations at Jefferson High School for several years. She participates in the Lodging Industry Internship along with the Florida LMP Competition. She works to place her students in lodging jobs and to administer the LMP exams. Her students’ success in the industry is a testament to the exemplary job she has done. Jefferson High School has a partnership with Amelia Island Plantation where more than 50 students have shadowed employees in all areas of hotel operations. Some students are designated “quality inspectors” and afforded the opportunity to put their academic studies and on-the-job training to the test.
