Recognition of the Continued Partnership Between the Tampa Bay History Center and the School District of Hillsborough County (Curriculum and Instruction)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The partnership between the School District of Hillsborough County (SDHC) and the Tampa Bay History Center (TBHC) that began in 1993, is being reaffirmed here today. Over the years, representatives from the SDHC and TBHC have met to provide insight into school, museum, and outreach programs which focus on curriculum and materials that meet the needs of students and teachers. Some of the highlights of this long-term partnership are:
- Working with USF to co-sponsor the Florida History Fair for the past eight years
- Providing a page, Teachers Lounge, for teachers on the TBHC website
- Listing of partnership programs on the SDHC website
- Discounting TBHC memberships for teachers and students
- Loaning Traveling Trunks which cover seven social studies themes to teachers
- Offering a week-long summer teacher training through the Teaching American History grant (six years)
- Presentations by the History Center at school sites during Professional Study Day
- Distributing TBHC publications (Teachers on the Tampa Bay Frontier, Children on the Tampa Bay Frontier, Women on the Tampa Bay Frontier, African Americans on the Tampa Bay Frontier, Jewish Pioneers on the Tampa Bay Frontier and Hillsborough's Communities) to schools for classroom or media center use
This strong partnership has provided invaluable assistance to the District's students and teachers and will continue to provide quality support in the future.
