Approve Memorandum of Agreement Between Hillsborough County Public Schools and A Kid’s Place, Inc. (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
An emergency assessment shelter, A Kid’s Place, Inc., is being built in the Brandon area to serve children who have been sheltered in the local child welfare system. A ten-month elementary classroom teacher will serve this location to provide educational services. The classroom teacher will work cooperatively with A Kid’s Place, Inc. staff and agency partners to ensure appropriate transitions for these children that promote positive educational outcomes and safety. This memorandum describes the coordination of these services, which will begin on April 3, 2009.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
$74,957.30 - The District will be responsible for the salary and benefits for the assigned ten-month elementary classroom teacher. The District will also provide educational materials. A Kid’s Place, Inc. will provide appropriate classroom space, school supplies, and the necessary support and information to provide educational services within this shelter program.
EVALUATION
The Supervisor of School Social Work Services is the District’s representative on the multi-agency steering committee for the development of A Kid’s Place, Inc. The classroom teacher assigned to A Kid’s Place, Inc. will be a member of the faculty of Brooker Elementary and will work under the supervision of that school’s principal. The Supervisor of School Social Work and the Brooker Principal will meet regularly to review student progress and to direct educational services. A Kid’s Place, Inc. staff will be responsible for the evaluation of shelter services, which includes educational outcomes.
