Adoption of Proclamation, "Black History Month" - February 2009 (Secondary Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Florida Governor Charlie Crist has proclaimed February as "Black History Month" in the state of Florida. Black History Month celebrates Florida's African-Americans who have made very important contributions to the development of our state, and is recognized and widely celebrated by the entire nation. Americans have recognized black history annually since 1926.

The observance of "Black History Month" commemorates the fact that our country and community have benefited from the contributions of African-Americans and celebrates their significant achievements. In celebration, Hillsborough County Schools will recognize and honor the contributions and achievements of African-Americans.
