EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Hillsborough County Elementary Mathematics Council is an organization that promotes the passion and enthusiasm of mathematics throughout the district. H.C.E.M.C. along with the support of the Elementary Mathematics department hosts many events throughout the district every year. The events include: Grades 2-5 Math Bowls, Baseball TiVitz, Math at the Mall, dinner meetings, Barnes and Nobles Math Night, SHAPES Awards for teachers, administrators and schools, Rita Dugan Memorial Award for a beginning math teacher, T.E.A.M Technology grants, mathematics grants, as well as a student math essay contest offered to all students in grades 3-5 to express how math matters to them. They also provide opportunities for teachers to attend state and national mathematics conferences to continue to enhance their own expertise in the area of mathematics.
During the first half of the 2008/2009 school year, the support received at the events from schools, teachers, students, parents, and the district was outstanding. The Hillsborough County Elementary Mathematics Council members are excited about the successes at all the events and would like to showcase the winners for the first half of this year.
