EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Motor vehicle accidents are the number one cause of death for teens, and account for 38% of all deaths in that age group. The importance of practicing safety behind the wheel is a message that can't be repeated enough to our teens, our youngest drivers and our most inexperienced drivers.
Our district high schools have long offered a course in driver education, and we believe that our efforts have contributed to public safety in our community. In partnership with organizations like the Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the Dori Slosberg Foundation, and the Allstate Foundation to name but a few, our district has maintained a commitment to safe teen driving. Attached is a proclamation that Hillsborough County Public Schools will observe the week of April 20, 2009, as "Teenage Safe Driving Awareness Week."
