SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Erin McGaffney to Serve as Project Manager/Web Designer for Project Educating Learners to Engage in Civics Today (Project ELECT) (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Due to the extension of Project Elect, we request approval of the Agreement for Technical Services with Erin McGaffney to serve as Project Manager/Web Designer for Project ELECT from April 22, 2009, through September 30, 2009, to oversee ongoing Project ELECT activities including, but not limited to the following:
- Develop and coordinate professional development training for teachers
- Coordinate the production and distribution of workshop materials and educational resources to teachers, which includes CD-ROMs and DVDs of an educational series featuring elected officials
- Provide outreach to parent and community groups related to civic education
- Coordinate Speaker's Bureau of elected officials/li>
- Provide civic education programs to students
- Coordinate activities and meetings of civic education focus groups made up of students, teachers, and administrators
- Coordinate school-based civics activities including mock elections, voter registration drives, voter forums, and Ought To Be A Law
- Utilize assessments to measure teacher and student comprehensive understanding of civics, the legislative process, and participatory citizenship
- Daily maintenance of Project ELECT website

Funding of $9,504.13 is included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, Project ELECT, funded by the United States Department of Education Grant Competition to Improve Public Knowledge of and Support for Democracy, Project 1425.
