SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Sulphur Springs Library Partnership Interlocal Agreement Between Hillsborough County and the School Board of Hillsborough County

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Staff of Hillsborough County Library Services and Hillsborough County Public Schools have been working together to accomplish expansion of the library at Sulphur Springs Elementary School. The School Board previously approved an Interlocal Agreement with the County on January 27, 2009, which was submitted for BOCC approval. A subsequent review by the County attorney revealed several issues that needed additional clarification. The BOCC approved the attached Interlocal Agreement at the April 1, 2009 meeting for the design and construction of the 3,300 to 3,500 square foot expansion of the existing Sulphur Springs Elementary library; the joint operation and maintenance terms; equipping the expansion by purchase of new furnishings and equipment; incorporation of the school's existing circulation materials; and to provide an Integrated Online Library Computer System.

The County and the Board will jointly plan and design the project and the Board will construct the space. At completion, the Board will own the expanded facility, with a joint right of use between both parties. The County has appropriated $770,000 for design, construction and equipping this library expansion project.
