Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with Child Care Solutions Unlimited to Provide Professional Development Services and Summer Program Activities for 30 Fourth Grade Students and Their Families Residing in the East Tampa Zip Codes 33603, 33604, 33605, 33610, and 33619 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

During the summer of 2008, Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) partnered with Child Care Solutions Unlimited to provide summer activities focused on academic and character development for elementary students and families in East Tampa. Data collected at the conclusion of the first nine weeks of the 2008/2009 school year, indicated that the 29 students who participated in the program did not receive any behavior referrals or suspensions, 83% of the students had perfect attendance, 90% had no tardies, 89% of students earned all A’s and B’s on their report card and no participating student earned a grade lower than C during the reporting period.

Child Care Solutions Unlimited’s Summer Connect4Success Program will utilize dropout prevention best practices and will incorporate cooperative learning, service learning, skill building activities, along with parent and teacher professional development. Program trainings and activities will focus on social responsibility, character education, caring and effective communication, goal setting, conflict resolution, and life skill development.

This contract will be paid using Title I funds in the amount of $14,890.

EVALUATION

By November 1, 2009, a series of outcome measures will be evaluated to determine the impact of the Connect4Success Summer Program. Student, parent, and teacher survey results will be reviewed. Student achievement and behavior data will also be reviewed. The district will utilize this data to determine program success.
