EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

During the summer of 2008, Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) partnered with Enable Business Development Institute, LLC to provide entrepreneurial training to middle school teachers in order to incorporate Junior Achievement’s “It’s My Business” model with middle school students during the 2008/2009 school year.

Based on pre and post test results, 95% of participating teachers reported a significant increase in knowledge regarding operating a business. At the conclusion of the first nine weeks, 130 middle school students were instructed on entrepreneurial concepts. Several students had developed and implemented their own entrepreneurial plan within their community. Based on these results, the school district will partner with Enable Business Development Institute, LLC during June 2009.

Enable Business Development Institute, LLC will provide training for up to 15 teenage mothers on basic steps to becoming an entrepreneur. The participants will receive 20 hours of hands-on practical training with a goal of developing one project as a class, which will serve as an example for how each participant can develop their own business plan. This contract pays for the cost of all trainers and training materials.
