EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The rich and lengthy history of Middleton High School began in 1934 when the school district opened a high school in East Tampa. The school was named after George S. Middleton, a business and civic leader who championed the cause of educational opportunity for all children. Middleton’s history reflects the tumult and triumphs that occurred in our community in the late 20th century and early 21st century.
In 1971, during the early days of court-ordered desegregation, Middleton High School was converted to a middle school. Then, in response to a determined campaign by alumni, Middleton was re-established as a high school in 2002 in a newly constructed state-of-the-art campus on 22nd Street in East Tampa.
With the re-establishment of Middleton as a high school, the Alumni Association organized an "All Class Reunion." The reunions have been joyous occasions that have attracted multiple generations of Middleton Tigers from around the nation back to Tampa to share their love of their community and their school.
This year, the "All-Class Reunion" will celebrate 75 years of Middleton history. The three-quarters-century mark is a landmark anniversary that provides an opportunity to highlight Middleton’s celebrated past and promising future.
