SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Interlocal Agreement Between the City of Tampa and the School Board of Hillsborough County for Retrofit of Emergency Shelter Facilities at Tampa Bay Boulevard, Forest Hills and Oak Park Elementary Schools
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As part of the School Board's ongoing partnership with the City of Tampa's emergency operations, on January 27, 2009, the Board approved the Interlocal Agreement with the City to retrofit Tampa Bay Boulevard, Forest Hills and Oak Park Elementary Schools as emergency shelter facilities. Upon further review by the City's legal department, they requested language changes and modifications to the agreement. These changes were reviewed by School Board staff and are acceptable.
These schools will be first responder locations and require retrofit that would include electrical upgrades, window replacement/protection and installation of impact fabric. These improvements will be funded and constructed by the City and the Board will provide Florida Building Code review, inspections and permitting, which costs will be reimbursed to the Board. The Board will provide routine day-to-day maintenance of these locations and the City will provide maintenance for the facilities during and after use as an emergency shelter.
