EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Initiative: The district has contracted for over 31 years with Seniors in Service of Tampa Bay, Inc., Foster Grandparent Program. The contractual agreement assigns foster grandparents to appropriate students commensurate with their skills and training. The foster grandparents provide mentoring to the students to help them increase their academic and social skills.
Goals: To provide nurturing services by foster grandparents to general education students and students with disabilities. This partnership is extremely beneficial and aligned to district goals that support promoting student literacy and good citizenship.
Targeted Population: Up to 74 foster grandparents are placed at 20 schools throughout the district. See attachment for listing of schools.
Timeline: This collaboration is active and has projected funding through 2009/2010 school year.
Involvement: Funding for this collaboration is provided by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) grant, Title 1 grant, and district divisional general operating funds.
