Approve Agreements for Technical Services for Master Custodial Instructors for Training Custodians during the 2009/2010 School Year (Information and Technology Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Professional Certified Master Custodial Training Program was established in 1959 by the State Department of Education as in-service for the public school custodians in an effort to upgrade and update the quality and quantity of custodial services. In 1987, the state asked the Florida School Plant Management Association (FSPMA) to take over the program. Upon taking over the program, the FSPMA began the Certified Custodial Trainer Program, which certifies school board staff to teach the certificate program.

The Certified Custodian Program consists of 5 courses and tests and involves 72 hours of classroom and hands on training. Certified classes are:

  1. Professional Custodian
  2. Safety Operation
  3. Sanitation and Housekeeping
  4. Floors and Carpets
  5. Custodial Essentials
The Master Custodian Program consists of 4 courses and tests and involves 48 hours of classroom and hands on training. Master classes are:
  1. Minor Maintenance
  2. Ground Care
  3. Custodial Essential B
  4. Leadership
Agreements for Technical Service have been prepared for the attached list of master custodial instructors. These instructors have completed the state approved FSPMA train the trainer. This allows them to effectively train participants.

Funds in the amount of $25,000 are included in Staff Development budget, Project 5051, Instructional Support Personnel Training.

EVALUATION

The Certified Custodian Program is evaluated by the supervisors for Custodial Operations and Staff Development. Completion rate is considered in the evaluation. In addition, participants complete a survey to evaluate the program.
