EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
H.C.E.M.C. is an organization that promotes the passion and enthusiasm of mathematics throughout the district and along with the support of the elementary mathematics department hosts many events throughout the district every year. The events include: Grades 2-5 Math Bowls, Baseball Tivitz, Math at the Mall, dinner meetings, Barnes and Nobles Math Night, S.H.A.P.E.S. Awards for teachers, administrators, business partners and schools, Rita Dugan Memorial Award for a beginning math teacher, T.E.A.M Technology grant, mathematics grants, as well as a student math essay contest offered to all students in grades 3-5 to express how math matters to them. They also provide opportunities for teachers to attend state and national mathematics conferences to continue to enhance their own expertise in the area of mathematics.
During the second half of the 2008/2009 school year, the support received at the events from schools, teachers, students, parents, and the district was outstanding. The Hillsborough County Elementary Mathematics Council members are excited about the successes at all the events and would like to showcase the winners for the second half of this year for the Math Bowl, Baseball Tivitz, grant recipients, Rita Dugan Memoral Award and the S.H.A.P.E.S. Awards.
