Approve the Agreements for Technical Services for Services Associated with Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) State Teacher Quality Grant, PR/Award #290-2250A-0C001 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On October 20, 2009, The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) awarded $454,384 to HCPS to implement year two of the Teacher Quality grant, which provides teachers with access to research-based professional development addressing Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) in language arts and social studies. The HCPS content area teachers who were identified by K-12 language arts and social studies content supervisors during year one and University of South Florida (USF) College of Arts and Sciences professors will continue to edit materials, participate in all Saturday “Train-the-Trainer” trainings, and participate in training teachers from HCPS and the School District of Pasco County. Additionally, the website developed during year one of the grant will continue to be developed and maintained by Corey Peloquin. Dr. Bruce Jones from USF’s Anchin Center will continue in his role as the grant’s external evaluator. Compensation for these services will total $163,704.62. The specific amount for each provider will differ according to contracted hours and/or assigned responsibilities.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)

Funds of $163,704.62 are provided by the FLDOE, PR/Award # 290-2250A-0C001. HCPS is the grant’s fiscal agent and project funds reside with the district.

EVALUATION

Under the terms of the grant, an external evaluator from USF, contracted by HCPS, will evaluate the project providing annual reports to HCPS and the FLDOE. Copies of the annual reports and the final evaluation report will be provided to the Office of Assessment and Accountability.
