Recognition of the 2009 Winners for the Tampa Organization of Black Affairs' 28th Annual Youth Heritage Oratorical Scholarship Competition (Middle School Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Tampa Organization of Black Affairs (TOBA) hosted the 28th Annual Youth Heritage Oratorical Scholarship Competition in October 2009. The grand prize winner and runners-up were chosen from a group of 22 middle and high school contenders. Their topic was "Materialism and Consumerism: Its Causes, Consequences and Future Impact on Black Youth." We are proud to announce the following winners:

Wildens Cajuste, Van Buren Middle School – Orator of the Year - $2,000

Abdul-Ahad Al-Shaa’Ir, Jennings Middle School - First Place - $1,000

Jasmine Gued, Orange Grove Middle Magnet School – Second Place - $400

Danedria Perry, King High School – Third Place - $300

James Eliassaint, Tampa Bay Technical High School – Fourth Place - $200

Shaneece Lane, Robinson Magnet High School – Fifth Place - $100

These students are our future leaders. Wildens Cajuste and James Eliassaint are also members of "Men of Vision," an organization which provides opportunities for young men to work together in a group fellowship dedicated to community service.
