SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Recommendation Regarding the Purchase of "MOS 2007 K-12 Classroom Site Licenses" from CertiPort (Sole-Source Provider) (Curriculum and Instruction Division) |
|
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
These licenses from CertiPort are considered sole source, which is exempt from the bidding process per Florida Department of Education 6A1.012 purchasing policies.
We request approval to purchase MOS K-12 Classroom Site Licenses for 22 high school sites to provide Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification testing for Career and Technical Education students and teachers in Hillsborough County Public Schools. This purchase provides each school site with access to MOS certification practice software and testing licenses, which is valid for one year from date of purchase. The software and licenses cover certification tests in Microsoft Office 2007 including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and Outlook. These certification exams are recognized by industry and provide students with a marketable skill to take to the workforce. In addition, these industry certification exams are a required component of career academies as outlined in Florida's Career and Professional Education (CAPE) legislation. Students successfully earning industry certifications generate weighted FTE funding back to the Career and Technical Education programs where the student is enrolled and where the industry certifications are earned. Industry certifications are to be included in the calculation of school grades. |

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES | |
•Â Align financial resources to support the district’s strategic goals
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
Budgeted Federal Carl D. Perkins Grant funds are available in the amount of $98,010 for this project. The licenses are subject to renewal on an annual basis to provide continual access to certification preparation and testing. Funding for these certification tests will eventually be self-sustaining as earned certifications will generate weighted FTE to be used to pay for future student certification preparation and testing fees.
