EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The Memorandum of Understanding between Abt Associates and the School Board of Hillsborough County addresses the district's participation in the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) evaluation of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). USDA provides grant monies for the sole purpose of purchasing fresh fruits and vegetable snacks for students. The main objective of the program is to increase children's consumption of healthier snacks and decrease their intake of less nutritious foods. FFVP operates in ten (10) HCPS elementary schools. In this national study, Abt has asked to compare the overall dietary intake of selected students at a school that does not participate in the grant (Ruskin Elementary), to the intake of students in schools in other parts of the country that participate in the grant. The research goal is to determine if the FFVP has influenced children's overall dietary habits. | |
