In February 2009, the Board approved the selection of First Florida Insurers as the provider of Student Athletic Insurance.  First Florida Insurers has successfully provided the athletic insurance for one full school year with the following results:

  • All students participating in athletics and ROTC are covered
  • Ambulance services were upgraded from basic to advanced care
  • Catastrophic insurance, as required by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), was included in the costs
  • Established and maintained online enrollment and access to enrollments by the school sites, in addition to direct mail enrollment (provided in both English and Spanish)
  • Eliminated administrative duties at the schools for insurance enrollment and collections

The results have lead to substantial savings to the District and improved services to both students and staff.  In 2008 the District paid $136,708 in additional insurance premiums, and $73,069 for basic ambulance service.
